Simply, the big news is that Gingrich got to deflect any criticism of the allegations of his ex during the debate by attacking the moderator like he so often does. As far as the debate went, I literally slept through most of it. I will however mention that it seems like the media is going on the idea that Gingrich won overall, followed by Santorum. I however do not believe Santorum wins as much as people are just pushing the concept of him winning to get a social conservative into the mix. Let’s face it, they did it with Mike Huckabee and they’re going to try it with Santorum. Santorum is unelectable on a nation-wide election, but for the Christian Conservatives are grasping for anything right now because without him, the debate might just move strictly to economic issues, something that would help the Republicans out tremendously.
Obama said no go to the Keystone Pipeline, and Canada has responded that it actually might be better for them to sell their oil to Asian countries anyway. Amazing that a pipeline that would have brought in huge amounts of oil from a shorter distance from a country we are friendly with, is rejected for continued imports from an oil cartel based in the Middle East. Dislike all the environmental issues all you want, but when 90% of the proven oil reserves outside of OPEC is in Canada, it really makes a whole lot of sense. I know we want to get away from using so much oil, but we rely on it, and will continue to need to for a long while. This will become a major issue for Obama in his re-election campaign as Republicans will bring up these same points and describe Obama as someone who is inflicting pain on Americans and helping those who dislike us.
Anonymous shut down a few sites yesterday after a website was shut down without due process. The result was that the Department of Justice website went offline as well as many other media production companies who have pushed for more regulation and punishment for copyright infringement.
So, overall, not such an exciting day in the news. In other news, I have stopped reading http://www.theblaze.com and listening to Glenn Beck because even as I continued to give him chances to redeem himself, he continuously gets things wrong when it comes to the GOP nominees. He’s just too busy promoting politicians to remember that they are only looking for votes. Rush Limbaugh, the small amount of time I spent listening to him, is limited now as well. Let’s face it, I’m not going listen to people ignore the truth and promote their own.
And that’s why I stopped listen to them, because I could see how people are followers and would not reject even the most blatant incorrect views and just agree with hosts of shows because they think it must be right. For those of us who still think independently, it’s mind blowing to see such lack of independent thought. But, when you’re fed what people want you to believe through k-12, then go to college where even more pressure is put on you to believe what others tell you, you’re next step is to the real world where you continue to look for others to tell you what to think.
I don’t plan on telling you what to think. I plan on bringing up topics for discussion and debate. I can be wrong, and I will be wrong from time to time, and even then, the definition of right and wrong hardly ever applies. The only thing right is a good honest debate in which individuals can decide where they stand on the issues.
